Bombshell Burlesque

 

Newcastle's classiest event, the Bombshell Burlesque is prepping for another grand night of music, theatre, performance, comedy and dance at the Gallipoli Legion Club, Beaumont ST Hamilton.

Opera at the Tops, Twilight Soiree

Opera Hunter and The Barrington Country Retreat presents this wonderful night. The performers include: Angela Black, Jacquelyn Brown, Rob Dennis, Michael Saunders and Josephine Tan. Opera Pops to Music Theatre. 2 x 30 minute sets.

Dungog Film Festival Submissions for 2009

The Dungog Film Festival is dedicated to promoting  local films and filmmakers. The festival will be held 28-31 May 2009.

They accept completed shorts, features, documentaries, animations on film and digital. They also accept works in progress for narrativefeatures only and for documentaries at 50mins.

Rockin' the Black Dog

The musical talent of the Hunter will sing and play for charity on saturday, December 6, to raise awareness of depression and other mental illnesses.

Rockin the Black Dog, a free, all-ages music festival will include The Seabellies, The Boat People, Vaudeville, and the Newcastle Chamber Choir.

The event, at Camp Shortland, will honour the memory of Julie Firth, a volunteer high school mentor who lost her life on Mothers Day 2008, following her battle with depression.

University Cancellor Professor Trevor Waring said almost 800,000 Australian adults annually would experience a deprerssive illness.

Kings of Leon in Newcastle

The Kings of Leon will be coming to town in March next year. They have chosen Newcastle as their only non-capitol city show for their upcoming Australian tour.

This years 'Only By The Night' has reached No1 on the Aria Charts and is close to notching up triple platinum sales.

Kings of Leon rock the Newcastle Entertainment Newcastle Entertainment Centre on Sunday March 22. Tickets available from Ticketek when they go on sale November 24.

Carnivale

Summer Carnivale fever kicks off this weekend at the Brewery.

Ushering in the festival of fun are two groovy acts, Pablo Discobar and The Martini Club.

The Martini Club have been busy laying down tracks for their new EP, due for release in February next year. They hinted people could expect to hear a soul band with a "V8 engine under its hood" when the band makes its harbourside debut.

"We made our recording sessions coincide with gigs to capture our high-energy, Latino sounds"

Meanwhile, Melbourne groove masters, Pablo Discobar, will also be at hand to help you get into the swing of summer early with floor-thumping grooves and hip-swinging moves.

Cultural STOMP Planning Meeting

Hi All,

So what do you think, shall we get this party started?

Please come along to the Pod next Wednesday November 19 from 6 pm to talk about next years event on June 6 (to coincide with World Environment Day June 5) 

With the theme of "Be the Change" there is a lot of scope to make a special event in 2009.

Of course we need people to commit their time, ideas and energies to the process of creating the STOMP and to changing the social and cultural face of Newcastle.

I will send out my report of this years event later in the week so that you can come to the meeting with great ideas to refine and enhance the organisation of the event.

2008 Art Bazaar - Art & Craft Street Market

Come to the 6th Annual Art Bazaar Arts & Crafts Street Market on Saturday 6th of December, where you will experience the vibrant, exciting atmosphere of this increasingly popular event in beautiful tree-lined Laman Street.
