Discuss groups

Curious if there are reading groups or film groups out there, or what people do with the impulse to write, relate stuff about films and books. Is it mainly blogs and forum sites, of which I know little... or, hmm well, I'm just testing the waters I guess to see what people are doing.

Libraries

Hi Mortdecai,

I think a lot of literature and film groups are out there - most are probably organised within larger community groups - Pension groups, Church groups, friendship groups etc. If you're interested you could contact your local library and ask them what reading/book groups they have available in your area? - They usually have a variety of groups to cater for many tastes.

What are some of your favourite books and films?

Best of luck.

I'm a sucker for that

I'm a sucker for that 'what's your favourite...' question. So, for film I'm a huge Wong Kar Wai fan.'Fallen Angels' I verily recommend. David Lynch films, Jim Jarmusch, Emir Kusturica. As well as a fondness for fare like Irma Vep, Amelie, Fear and Loathing. Books it is Henry Miller, Julia Kristeva, Jean Genet, throw in the usual salad ingredients, and so it is with another internet confession of artistic allegiance. Anyway, I get blank stares when I trumpet these names at soirees and the like, so I am cautious, but on a slow search for recognition of some kind, perhaps

Short courses

I did a couple of Creative Writing short courses in the ACT when I lived there and found these a great way to meet people interested in meeting regularly to discuss reading and writing. Has anyone done any similar courses in the Hunter that they've found useful?
