This Scholarship has been established to support emerging artists who were either born in Newcastle and the Hunter Region or who now live in Newcastle or the Hunter Region. One scholarship will be offered to enable one artist to travel to New York for a three week period. Return airfares, accommodation and a modest stipend have been made possible through the generosity of Jennie Thomas, Ann Lewis AM and the Newcastle Region Art Gallery Foundation.

Come to the 6th Annual Art Bazaar Arts & Crafts Street Market on Saturday 6th of December, where you will experience the vibrant, exciting atmosphere of this increasingly popular event in beautiful tree-lined Laman Street.
There will be plenty to tempt visitors with over 45 stalls featuring locally-made arts and crafts, including ceramics, glasswork, jewellery, paintings, prints and drawings, textiles and fashion. Meet the artists and be delighted by buskers from Hunter School of Performing Arts, with great food and coffee just around the corner in Darby Street.
Octapod is launching its Community Media Space in mid September with a project in partnership with TAFE Outreach.
Participants in this FREE online media production course will have the unique opportunity to get involved with the This Is Not Art Festival and Rainbow Visions Festival as part of an online media team.
Designed as a hands on practical course – you will interview punters, artists and organisers, edit footage and produce videos/podcasts for online publication.

The evening of Saturday 7th June was brisk: a sharp, cool breeze blew across Newcastle, with dark, ominous clouds gathering overhead. Crossing Civic Park, I drew my jacket closed, and quickened my pace to reach the warmth of St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, the venue for the evenings entertainment. Upon entering the Church, I discovered the performance had already begun, so I gathered up a program and discretely sought out a pew. An audience of approximately 60 spectators had gathered to take in the aural delights of classical guitarists, Eric Cathan and Guiseppe Zangari, for a ‘one night only’ style performance.

Despite predictions of inclement weather, the 17th May saw Newcastle bathed in sunshine, blessing the Festival with a perfect Autumn day. The rain was kept at bay by the Festival’s themed homage to the water gods, and people flocked to Civic Park to enjoy the cultural pleasures that have become synonomous with the Festival. Following in the tradition of the previous 10 Festivals, there was a celebration of diversity and the potency of arts and culture in recognising and furthering issues of social justice and shared community values. To set the mood for the day, Andrew Spannenberg injected some rib tickling laughter and frivolity with his “Laughter as an Exercise” at the Four Eyes Forum. The infectiousness of the activity was palpable, touching even those who chose to just look on.
